Cannabidiol (CBD) to relieve OA pain. Does it work?

Oils and pills. To the right in the picture there is a green leaf and next to that you'll find a scoop.

A recent study from Denmark investigated which effect CBD has in hand osteoarthritis and psoriatic arthritis. For 12 weeks, one half received synthetic CBD and the other half received placebo, as an add-on to their usual analgesics.

The researchers investigated more than pain relief, including sleep quality and mental health. The participants who got CBD had 20-30 mg CBD every day for 12 weeks.

The result shows, among other things, that 22% of those who received CBD experienced that their pain decreased by 30 mm on VAS after 12 weeks. 21% percent of those who received placebo experienced the same. According to the study, this means that there were no significant effects on pain intensity when using 20-30 mg CBD on a daily basis for 12 weeks. Furthermore, CBD has been told to increase sleep quality, but in this study no difference was seen on sleep quality when comparing the group that received CBD with the group that received placebo.
According to the researchers, more studies are needed to evaluate the effects of CBD as pain relief, for example by studying higher doses than in this study.
